Need buy in 10k, 20k, 40k, 60k and 1L denominations to get 500, 1000, 1500, 3000 and 5000 bonus points respectively. Only then you will get the whole 1.25%.Since these are bonus points, you should get your regular points as well.
Most credit cards don't give points/cb for gold purchases now. This is a good option for people without credit cards that give benefits on gold.

sometimes, hdfc send out offers in email, like for east zone I got 5% off doing regular txn at senco, plus usual 1% from millennia...
